Mesopotamia Events

Many Ancient Mesopotamia events the occurred thousands of years ago has led to ideas and inventions we still use today.  The first things are about development of city states and Hammurabi's Codes .City states were developed for people to live in and make settlements . Hammurabi's code and chariots were written laws to keep order. The wheel and chariot were invented for transportation . The  epic of gilgamesh and exodus.tell stories of gods and great leaders of people. These are just few of many events and inventions of Mesopotamia

The city states were constructed around ziggurats Each city was devoted to one god. They  conquered other city states and grew. They developed writing to keep records and laws they wrote in a writing called cuneiform. There divisions of labor were merchants, farmers and priest. They built levees and made houses out of mud brick These resources were not only used to make houses and buildings they were also used for important inventions.

One of the most important discoveries of all time was the wheel. The wheel was first used by potters and latter used for transportation. It was used on  chariots in 3200 BC. The first wheel was made of clay before the wheel they used camels.     The wheel was also used for milling.People also had inventions in their stories.                                                                           The Epic of Gilgamesh is a story about a king who was part god and part human. He sets off with Enkidu whom the gods had sent for Gilgamesh to have as a partner. Enkidu was a wild man but shortly after he met Gilgamesh they become friends it is said they go and defeat mythical beasts, one was called the bull of heaven. Then the gods got mad and decided to kill Enkidu. Then Gilgamesh is worried about dying so he seeks the secret to eternal life the rest of the story was destroyed. Stories like this were used to entertain people. Some, like Hammurabi's Code are important because he made the laws for mesopotamia.

Hammurabi  was one of the greatest kings of Mesopotamia because he invented the laws/code called Hammurabi's code. He made the laws to keep order and make it fair for every body. Some of his codes are should a son should strike his father his hands shall be cut off. Or if a man takes the eye of a man his eye shall be took out. The codes were made so everyone shall have a fair trial.

Next is the chariot. The chariot is a form of transportation upper class citizens used. One person drove and one person ready to battle or hunt. The soldier would often carry  weapons such as bows and arrows and javelins. Chariots were a light, two wheeled vehicle made from wood and animal skins they were often used in Royal funerals.

The chariot and exodus are connected because they both have chariots in their stories.

The second Exodus occurs when Moses rescues the Israelites out of slavery from Egypt but the pharaoh says no. Then god sends the plagues then finally the Pharaoh says”, yes”, Moses then leads the Israelites to the promise land where god gives him the Ten Commandments.

Abraham was a wealthy jew Abraham had two sons Isaac and Ishmael. Also Abraham led his people to promise land because god  called Abraham to. Jews were being persecuted for monotheism. Then there is a drought and he leads his people to Egypt.

These were some of Mesopotamian inventions and stories. These inventions were useful because without the wheel there would be no chariot. Without Hammurabi's Code there would be no order in mesopotamia. king Hammurabi made the laws and to keep peace and order. And give everyone a fair trial Who would you want to be in Mesopotamia? An inventor,a king, or maybe even gilgamesh.
